Forged Shafts & Flanges — Manufacturer & Exporter

High-strength forged components where grain flow and fatigue resistance matter more than raw shape complexity.

Category: Products · Updated 2026-11-07 · BOXSTK engineering desk

Forged shafts and flanges are specified when a part sees cyclic load, torque or impact and a casting or machined bar would be the weak link. Forging refines the grain structure and keeps the grain flow aligned with the part contour, which improves fatigue life. We forge 45# carbon steel, 40Cr, 42CrMo, 20CrMnTi and stainless grades, then heat treat and CNC finish the bearing seats, threads and sealing faces.

Common outputs include stepped shafts, spline shafts, flange couplings, weld-neck and slip-on flanges, rings, gear blanks and connecting components. Die forging suits repeat volumes; open-die forging is used for large or low-volume parts where tooling cost cannot be justified.

For a straight cost and performance comparison against casting, see our casting vs forging guide.

What Determines the Quote

  • Whether a die is needed — open-die avoids tooling but adds machining time.
  • Heat treatment and hardness requirement, which may add a separate process step.
  • Non-destructive testing (UT / MT) requirements for safety-critical parts.
  • The amount of machining stock left on the forging: less stock saves material, more stock protects against scale and decarburisation.

Typical Applications

Gearbox and transmission shafts, pump and motor shafts, axle components, flange couplings and pipe flanges, agricultural driveline parts, lifting and rigging hardware, and wind / energy equipment components.

Manufacturing Process

Billets are cut to weight, heated, forged in dies or open dies, then trimmed and heat treated. Scale is removed by shot blasting before CNC turning and milling of the functional surfaces. Critical sections can be ultrasonically or magnetically inspected before final dimensional reporting.

Quality & Documentation

Material certificates are issued per heat, hardness is checked after treatment, and NDT reports are available for critical applications. See quality control.

FAQ

Questions Buyers Ask About Forged Shafts & Flanges

When should I choose forging over casting?

Choose forging for high cyclic loads, impact resistance and simple-to-moderate shapes; choose casting for complex geometries and internal passages.

Do you supply heat-treated and finished forgings?

Yes — heat treatment and CNC finishing of bearing seats and threads are part of the standard scope.

Can you forge a one-off large shaft?

Yes, open-die forging is suitable for low volumes and large dimensions without die tooling.

Do you provide NDT reports?

Ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection reports are available on request for critical parts.
